Illuketia Estate: Leave Galle town towards south on Matara Road and turn left into the Akuressa Road. If leaving Expressway for Galle, turn left at first traffic light into Akuressa Road. After 5 Km. on the Akuressa Road turn left into a lane opposite the Walkers' and Sons Building. A bright green sign of a Buddhist Meditation Centre written in Singhalese is seen at the start of the lane. A narrow country track leads to the red gate of Illuketia marked by two small white stupas or domes on the left.

The journey from the Airport is about two and a half hours direct on the new Expressway and between three and four hours from the capital depending on traffic on one of the most busy roads in Asia.

There are safe and sandy family beaches 2-3 km. toward Galle at Unawatuna, and 2-3 km. east at Habaraduwa.
